NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) —Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected for all of Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky Saturday. The timing now looks to be earlier with storms in our western zones by 7am. A Tornado Watch is in effect through 1pm for much of Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky.

At the same time, the winds will be ramping up so much so that a Wind Advisory has been issued for all of Middle TN and Southern KY until 6pm. We are expecting downed trees since the ground is so wet and that may lead to power outages. By midday, the line of intense thunderstorms will be heading over the I-65 corridor. These storm quickly race toward the Plateau and actually should be exiting by 5pm which means if you are planning to watch the Titans game you should be good to go!

The main impacts from the strongest storms include heavy rainfall, frequent lightning, straight line winds in excess of 50-60 mph, small hail, and isolated tornadoes. A higher potential for tornadoes is expected in our southern counties near the Alabama border. Check the latest weather advisories at wkrn.com/alerts

Rainfall amounts could pile up between 2-3 inches with locally higher amounts. This could lead to pockets of flooding on roads and even several rivers/creeks.

This is why there is also a Flash Flood Watch for Trigg, Henry, Carroll, Benton, and Decatur Counties through Saturday afternoon. Remember, if you see flooded roads, turn around and don’t drown.
